STIHL and Zühlke: a digital strategy for IoT-based services

Stihl

Using agile co-creation to achieve an integrated software solution that enables digital fleet management of motor-driven devices for customers via IoT connection.

  • Fast and successful entry into the IoT thanks to agile software development and co-creation.
  • Competitive advantages thanks to a customer-centric approach and the range of services developed.
  • Collecting usage data from the field as a basis for further optimisation of the products.

Starting position - Digital added value thanks to intelligent networking

Many of the STIHL Group’s customers have to manage a large fleet of equipment. The challenge here is to optimally coordinate when the equipment is in use and ensure maximum availability. STIHL also wants to collect relevant data in order to gain a deeper insight into the actual use of the products despite a decentralised distribution structure. The solution for this is intelligent networking of STIHL equipment and digital fleet management to provide a comprehensive overview of all equipment in use, along with its maintenance status and availability.

Solution - Seamless integration of a cloud-based portal

Using an agile process, the project partners develop a business model and a digital strategy for the realisation of a cloud-based portal. The solution is seamlessly integrated into the existing IT systems. Among other things, it records the operating hours and geographic coordinates of the equipment and supplements this data with further information, such as the weather conditions.

Benefit - Intelligent fleet management with ‘STIHL connected’

STIHL customers have a complete overview of their equipment fleet and can optimally plan when the equipment is in use, order repairs and even integrate machines from other manufacturers. STIHL receives valuable data from the field, which is used to further optimise its products. STIHL is becoming a pioneer in its industry thanks to ‘STIHL connected’, which will be expanded as part of a long-term partnership with Zühlke.
