It is no longer possible to maintain or enhance the main application used in the management of brick-and-mortar Swisscom Shops. Zühlke modernises the application and gradually phases out the old one.

The challenge facing Swisscom is that the main application used in the management of its brick-and-mortar shops no longer meets today’s data security requirements. Furthermore, due to outdated technologies and a lack of expertise, the application can no longer be efficiently maintained or enhanced. Because the application is embedded into a complex system landscape with well over 20 peripheral systems that supply it with relevant data via a wide range of protocols and technologies, a secure, future-oriented solution must be found.

Zühlke carries out an intensive vitality check on the application. In particular, this involves analysing the connections to the peripheral systems, identifying the existing risks, and defining recommendations for the subsequent steps. The modernisation strategy and the approach for the transformation into the new architecture are defined in a detailed fitness plan.

Together, the developers from Zühlke and Swisscom build the new application alongside the existing one, putting an initial version of it into operation within a short space of time. Synchronising both systems ensures that the connected peripheral systems continue to receive all the necessary data at all times. The continuous, prioritised implementation of new and existing functions, coordinated with the users and stakeholders, ensures that new user groups can start working with the new application gradually, and that only those functions which are really needed are modernised and implemented on the new platform. Connections to peripheral systems are also transferred to the new application step by step, which reduces the risk of the old platform failing. By working closely with the Zühlke engineers and exchanging knowledge with them, Swisscom will also have access to the technical expertise needed for maintaining and enhancing the new system in the future.
