Over the years, Swisscom has implemented all the customer centre’s use cases in a central system. This centralisation affects an increasing number of internal areas, with the team organisation growing in complexity. This legacy system in classic architecture leads to internal dependencies, makes maintenance more difficult and delays the launch of new features. Swisscom therefore turns to Zühlke to carry out an application modernisation project.

The existing system is split into individual smaller modules for each domain, such as mobile, billing and email. Calls to modules and their peripheral systems are now made via their interfaces. Where necessary, additional interfaces are implemented and further adjustments made. Zühlke is responsible for the conversion of several modules.

The application modernisation project is a success: the individual modules work independently of each other, they can be individually adapted and overall operational security is improved. If one system goes down, it doesn’t impact the whole. There is scope for improving and modifying individual modules to enable faster response to market requirements.
