Many industrial companies are searching for a clear framework to harness their machine and plant data. Brückner has risen to this challenge: the DOME data platform enables efficient utilisation and monetisation of data, paving the way for scaling AI initiatives.
Brückner Maschinenbau holds vast volumes of data from highly complex production facilities and aims to structure, utilise, and monetise it effectively.
With technical, methodological, and organisational support from Zühlke, Brückner has implemented its own cloud-based data platform – DOME.
With DOME, Brückner benefits from a solid foundation for successful AI scaling, monetised services, and significantly lower internal effort.
Brückner Maschinenbau, the world market leader in film-stretching lines for plastic film production, faced the same decisive strategic question that many industrial companies grapple with, how can data from highly complex production systems be made systematically usable?
The answer: with a scalable data platform as the foundation for successful data monetisation. Together with Zühlke, Brückner launched the DOME project (Data Orbit for Machinery and Engineering). DOME not only provides Brückner’s engineers with efficient access to film and plant data, but also lays the groundwork for scalable AI applications, opening the door to new digital business models.
The challenge at the outset will be familiar to many industrial environments. Brückner’s production systems generate enormous amounts of data every day, yet there was no standardised, efficient way to capture and process them. The diversity of sources and formats, limited internal resources, and the challenge of making data valuable across the organisation complicated the development of scalable solutions to unlock their full potential.
“Based on our previous collaboration, we had complete confidence that Zühlke would ask the right questions, accelerate our journey, and lead us to success together.” “Based on our previous collaboration, we had complete confidence that Zühlke would ask the right questions, accelerate our journey, and lead us to success together.”
Brückner chose to extend its successful partnership with our team for this project. We had already impressed the company with expertise in Industrial AI, Industrial IoT, production data platforms, and OT/IT integration. The starting point was establishing a shared vision and a pragmatic roadmap. DOME was built as a cloud-based data platform, integrating data from multiple sources and turning it into reusable data products.
We supported Brückner not only technically, but also methodologically and organisationally. The first productive use cases were delivered quickly which was key for building awareness and trust among Brückner’s customers. At the same time, Brückner’s own teams were deliberately upskilled to ensure they could further develop the platform independently in the long term.
“What distinguishes Zühlke from other partners is the constant focus on the best solution for Brückner, with the goal of making us stronger, not making themselves indispensable.” “What distinguishes Zühlke from other partners is the constant focus on the best solution for Brückner, with the goal of making us stronger, not making themselves indispensable.”
Today, DOME is not only a successfully implemented data platform but also a central pillar of Brückner’s digital strategy. The first data-driven services have already been monetised. For example, customers now receive equipment maintenance reports directly based on collected data, which Brückner can charge for.
At the same time, Brückner achieves significant efficiency gains with DOME: tasks that previously required several weeks can now be completed within a few days. The impact extends well beyond the project team: other departments and external customers alike are increasingly implementing their own use cases with DOME and benefitting from the platform. Demand and measurable value are growing both internally and externally.
With DOME, Brückner now has a powerful data platform that serves as the foundation for scalable AI implementation, new digital services, and a data-driven business model.
The partnership with Zühlke demonstrates how strategic collaboration enables innovation and empowers industrial companies to unlock the economic value of their data. It is yet another milestone in a long-standing partnership that has already delivered several successful projects in data and AI.
