Task

With «Kaba exivo», dormakaba was one of the first in the market to exploit the opportunities that arise from connecting machines, manufacturers, and customers. Thanks to the «Kaba exivo» platform, specialist partners are able to plan, sell, install, and maintain digital access systems. Users can easily operate and monitor their system – or obtain these services from the specialist partners on a subscription basis. Zuhlke provided all the skills that are necessary for a successful IoT project: innovation know-how, business expertise, engineering competence, user-experience design, and agile project management.

Solution

As a first step, Zuhlke and dormakaba conducted innovation workshops to define the vision and the associated business case. The technical implementation took place in several cycles using an agile process. Three web apps were created in a cloud infrastructure: One for the end user, one for the specialist partner for planning and maintenance, and one for dormakaba for ordering and support. Thanks to the responsive design, all the apps run on smartphones, tablets, and PCs. An IoT stack that communicates with the controllers in the customer’s system is responsible for connecting the locking technology. The high safety standards are fulfilled with standard mechanisms such as digital signatures.
