Zühlke has supported the development of Temial – the first connected, fully automated tea maker – from the initial idea right through to the start of production. A team of experts in mechanics, electronics, embedded software, connectivity and UX enabled a rapid and global market entry.
Connected device for automated tea-making
Vorwerk has a vision: bringing a better quality of life to the places people call home. Helping to make this a reality is Temial, a connected and fully automated tea machine for leaf tea, which combines classic tea-making with the digital world and a revolutionary UX. Because the product will also be marketed in Asia, it needs to meet several household appliance standards. Ensuring connectivity to cloud backends in Europe and China as well as integrating the solution with different technologies and partners are further challenges.
Interdisciplinary development delivers the objective
Such a complex project requires interdisciplinary teams: experts from the fields of mechanics, electronics, embedded technologies, connectivity, UX and test automation work in agile collaboration to support the development from generation of the idea to market launch. The design-for-testability principle enables parallel test automation, integration of firmware with production tests as well as approval tests and provisioning. Thanks to a micro-series of sales prototypes, it is also possible to carry out user and market tests during development.
Spectacular product impresses the market
The result is a connected, fully automated tea maker with award-winning product design and numerous digital features; it can be controlled via a mobile app, for example, and automatically reorder tea varieties. Thanks to Zühlke's support, there is now nothing to stop a successful market launch in Europe and China. In Germany, the Test Magazine ETM gives its quality verdict: "With a score of 94.8%, Vorwerk's Temial is awarded the test rating 'Very good'. It is the best tea maker featured in a test by ETM TESTMAGAZIN so far."
