The easyRemote display app aims to facilitate simple, rapid Bluetooth-based remote access to easy800 control relays via Android smartphones. The spec called for a userfriendly smartphone interface providing access to the full range of easy800 display and control functions just as if the user was working directly on the control relay. Users can view text strings, view and adjust settings, control and modify the connection scheme, set the date and time and change the operating mode.
Starting from a product specification, Zühlke undertook technical design and implementation of the app over a short timeframe of just a few weeks. Zühlke developed individual graphic controls which realistically mimicked the easy800 control panel display and keypad. Zühlke also put together design proposals, which then underwent additional refinement in conjunction with Eaton over the course of short iteration cycles. The Zühlke Bluetooth stack for Android was used as a basis for implementing EATON’s inhouse communication protocol. The Zühlke Bluetooth stack is a reusable basic framework which delivers key management functions for serial communication via Bluetooth, reducing implementation workload. The incremental, iterative development process enabled requirements which were not apparent when the specification was drawn up to be implemented within a controlled framework. By working in partnership with Eaton, Zühlke was able to deliver a marketready app within a tight timeframe.
