The next generation ticket

BLS and Zühlke created an entirely new customer experience with an innovative travel app: A virtual ticket that works without entering a destination, and charges each passenger individually for the distance traveled.


BLS wanted to make traveling simpler by developing a new ticket solution. The aim of the „lezzgo“ app was for passengers to enjoy season ticket comfort, but only to pay for what they actually use: The app notes passengers’ journeys, and bills the best available rate at the end of the trip – they no longer need to search for the right zone ticket. The challenges: Prototypes needed to be built in a short time that were able to evolve according to customers’ needs. At the same time, the team was required to elaborate a method of calculating the itinerary based on the smartphone’s location.



Zühlke developed the solution architecture, defined the interfaces, and coordinated the development team. By using the lean startup method, results were quickly and easily devised and re-utilized. Zühlke supported BLS in the agile development of the product in both the back and front-end areas. Minimum Viable Products were produced in several iterations that were first vali-dated by the customer in a field test, and then in a public beta phase. This made it possible to cre-ate a product that was easy to use and tailored to customers’ needs. BLS benefitted in calculating the itineraries from Zühlke’s wide experience with artificial intelligence methods. Using state-of-the-art techniques, the calculation method was continuously improved on the basis of countless recorded journeys.
