More flexible R&D with nearshoring

The key factors for a productive and successful nearshore partnership are a suitable cooperation model, careful partner evaluation, and the capability for distributed software development.

Task

USTER Technologies, a leading manufacturer of electronic measuring and quality assurance systems for the textile industry, planned to expand their software development capabilities flexibly and economically in order to create a new product generation. As a nearshoring partner seemed the best solution, Zühlke helped to evaluate a suitable nearshore supplier and successfully establish a partnership.

Implementation

The cooperation model was selected in accordance with the experience and skills of the customer’s development team. It prepared the ground for the maximum scaling of the nearshoring resources while minimizing the workload for their employees.

A liaison engineer from the nearshore partner was seconded to the customer’s premises, ensuring optimal communication between the partner and the client’s development teams. The nearshoring partner managed the development team and took care of the detailed software specification, which was approved by the customer before implementation. Using a methodical and very tightly scheduled process, Zühlke evaluated a nearshoring partner that was in the position to implement the cooperation model, suited the client, and possessed the necessary skills and development tools. During the preparation phase and while setting up the cooperation with the new partner, the customer’s employees received intensive coaching. This ensured that the processes and methods for requirements engineering, test planning, test execution and quality assurance continued to develop and complied with the new requirements.
