The Zühlke experts in IoT, software architecture and security were made available on short notice for the technical due diligence. This allowed a timely completion of the overall due diligence process, which resulted in CKW acquiring a 20% share of the start-up.
The CKW group is a service provider for energy, data and infrastructure in central Switzerland with an annual revenue of CHF 774 Mio. and 1’880 employees serving 200’000 residential, commercial and municipal customers. CKW identifi ed a university spin-off in Germany as a potential acquisition target. The start-up’s cloud based IoT technology enables optimization, control, and aggregation of prosumers energy devices such as the smart energy system, battery, heat pump, or EV charging wallbox.
Zühlke’s assignment is to assess the technical solutions on site with the start-up in an audit scenario based on interviews, technical walk throughs, document reviews and other means of investigation. This requires understanding the requirements of the solution, also from a business standpoint, to determine whether the start-up’s IoT platform solution provides a foundation for future services within the smart energy market of CKW. Zühlke is expected to deliver the qualified report and the recommendation within a short time because the investment round ends shortly.
Zühlke analyses the architecture of the solution and challenges it against qualities such as security, scalability, maturity and future viability. Also, the product development process of the start-up is assessed. The evaluation is based on the proven «Zühlke Architecture Assessment Framework» (ZAAF) and results in a Zühlke recommendation for the CKW stakeholders and a fi nal report which includes a list of observations and non-conformities. Zühlke presents the outcome of the investigation during an on-site session, answering questions and making recommendations.
