The private railway company BLS was dealing with a number of businesscritical IT projects. With a project audit, Zühlke provided a solid basis for decisions on their further strategic approach in application management.


In order to guarantee regular operation and serve their passengers‘ increasing demands, BLS launched several strategic IT projects. In the course of this initiative, business-critical applications were to be significantly altered or completely redeveloped. Stable interfaces to partner companies in the railway sector is one of the key success factors for sustainable development and for the operation of BLS‘s application landscape. One of their partners announced changes to the interface; at the same time, BLS was keen to extend its functionalities. This intention called the entire solution concept of the centralized information platform into question. By means of an audit, Zühlke examined the solution concept and the implementation project. As a result, the team created the basis to make a well-founded decision on the available variants.


In close cooperation with BLS, Zühlke defined the priorities and issues crucial to selecting a site location and determined key persons for the interviews. Based on the established standard model ZAFIR, „good practices“ and Zühlke‘s extensive experience, the review team developed a customized questionnaire, conducted semi-structured interviews, andanalyzed the significant results of the project. Consequently,  the scope of the questions, which were originally focused on the integration project, had to be extended in order to include the organizationaland operational environment. Zühlke developed an overall assessment and defined a package of measures. This enabled the customer to introduce targeted organizational and technological changes.
