Marco, Business Analyst in Zurich, sometimes plays with Lego. This helps him in gaining new ideas.
Why are Lego bricks laying on your desk?
This is Lego Serious Play: Various kits support the creative process for solving problems and generating ideas. The tangible visualization of ideas facilitates communication within a team and leads to constructive discussions. Thus, Lego Serious Play (LSP) can be used also to elaborate the goals of a team or to give feedback. What is challenging is that more complex ideas have to be represented symbolically due to the small selection of bricks.
How did you come across LSP?
I am interested in creativity techniques and ideation. It was only a matter of time before I discovered it. I tried LSP instantly in our Zuhlke Camp to visualize and develop ideas in a creativity workshop. It was a lot of fun. Therefore, I will definitely continue to deal with the various possibilities of LSP. Maybe I will even go for a certification as Lego Serious Play Facilitator.
“As soon as the bricks are on the table, playfulness and the desire to experiment are awakened – these are essential success factors in fostering creativity.”
Can you also use Lego Serious Play for client cases?
For some creativity techniques, the participants have to leave their comfort zone, but not everyone feels at ease. However, everyone knows Lego from their childhood. As soon as the bricks are on the table, playfulness and the desire to experiment are awakened – these are essential success factors in fostering creativity. One must keep in mind, that LSP is not suitable for every case. So far I could not use it with our clients. The results from my internal assignments are very promising. My colleagues already successfully used LSP with clients and received positive feedback.
