Swisstom

Swisstom AG develops innovative medical devices for monitoring the lung and heart function of patients in ICUs and during general anaesthesia, thereby enabling life-saving treatment. To date, no other comparable devices in the world are able to show such organ function continuously and in real-time at the patient’s bedside. This opens up a world of new opportunities for intensive care doctors and anaesthesiologists.

Based on electrical impedance tomography (EIT) technology, the Swisstom system features highly innovative components which make it easy and convenient to use. This is making it possible, for the first time, to utilise EIT in a wide range of medical applications. The system complements the already well-established computer tomography technology which, in contrast to EIT, only shows the situation at a specific point in time. The Swisstom monitoring and feedback procedure enables physicians to provide artificially ventilated patients with specific treatment, thereby preventing the risk of a lung collapsed lung and saving many lives as a result.

Protected by international patents, Swisstom's EIT plattform opens the door for future product development for hospitals, private practices and sports.

The company name Swisstom stands for ‘tomography made in Switzerland’.
