Introduction to Scrum

Description

Business leaders have grown tired of software projects that deliver the wrong system, too late, too buggy and/or at too high a cost. In the last decade, Agile methods have moved from the experimental fringe to the mainstream, as more and more businesses recognise the advantages of a less rigid development process. The early “brand leader” among these methods was Scrum, which is now the most commonly used agile project management process. It is used successfully in non-software projects too.

This course introduces the Scrum method and its essential practices, explains why the method works and in what circumstances, and familiarises students with some of the common complementary practices that really make Scrum projects successful. Although primarily aimed at those involved in software projects, the course examples do not demand any IT expertise.

Goals

Attendees will acquire the basic knowledge needed to work in or with Scrum development teams and to identify the important roles and their responsibilities that contribute to success. By itself, this course will not transform a team into a Scrum team – proficiency only comes with practice, coaching and regular review.

Participants

This course is intended for software development, test and support teams, product managers, project managers, line managers, business analysts, architects and designers.
